Chunghwa Telecom Partners with Orange for Emerging Markets
August 05, 2013

Chunghwa Telecom has reached a deal with Orange Telecom Group to jointly explore broadband network and mobile payment opportunities in emerging markets and Southeast Asia, according to Taiwan's Commercial Times on August 2. As part of the deal, Orange Telecom, which brags 90 million subscribers worldwide, will expand its procurement of flat display panels, tablets, notebook PCs, smartphones, and network communications devices from Taiwanese vendors. The two companies agree to establish joint ventures vying for 3G and 4G licenses in emerging markets, with their sights first setting on Myanmar where Orange Telecom is a candidate for 3G license price negotiation. With Chunghwa Telecom's own-developed TSM (Trusted Service Management) platform, the Chunghwa-Orange team expects to cut into the flourishing mobile payment services worldwide.
